I finished writing my new book! YAY. This book is inspired by the world inside children’s minds. Kids have a different way of seeing things. They always find a way to have fun, everyone is their friend, and pretty much everything is interesting and worth exploring. It is almost like they live in a “parallel world” that is so much better than the real world.

In my new book, I imagined this being a real place that people can actually visit. A land where things are always fun and happy, and people are always friendly. I called this imaginary world “Squiggle World”. The whole book is written in advertisement format. The characters explain how great this place is and invite the reader to visit them. And the title is exactly that: “Take a Trip to Squiggle World”.

Now we get to the visual part of it... The illustrations. I want them to reflect a children’s world. So, I asked my 4- and 8-year-old kids to draw the character that live in this imaginary place. My son tried his best to draw a boy and a girl, they look very cute. My daughter drew these very long and lean people with a small head. When I asked her why she drew them like that, she looked up at my face and said, I drew mommy and daddy. I guess from her perspective that’s how adults look like.

I gather their drawings and digitize them. I derived their characters to create more characters. So now I have the whole Squiggle World population based on characters created by kids. The scenarios can’t be anything ordinary, because nothing is ordinary inside children’s minds. So, the book takes place in an abstract world. Trees are twisted, mountains are curls, and the ground is not always flat. It is a series of intriguing illustrations that will inspire creativity in the little kids’ minds.

This illustration is a little bit of what you will find in “Take a Trip to Squiggle World”. Stay tuned for more!
